Navy Point Inside 2_SFW_19 Dec 12

This has been sitting around for some time and I have been meaning to post it some time ago.  This is a view from the inside of the Navy Point Store.  I have posted a view of the outside a year or so back, but this is one of the few that I have found that was made inside.  I think this was made for a yearbook ad back in the 1960’s … not sure if it was for the PHS or the Escambia High Yearbook.  As usual, I have no idea who the girls are.  I have several others that were made at this time that I will post later … thanks for looking, Frank.

Jarrard Motors …

This is the last of these old photos that I have posted before, but ones I have run through the Lucis Art Filter.  If you run a search you should be able to find the original photo in the first post.  I personally like the look this filter gives, however I am not going to take the time to do all of these photos.  Only the ones that have detail that this filter enhances.  Thanks for looking and as usual, all comments are appreciated … Frank

Son Motors …

Here is another image that I found in another ” Son Motors ” negative envelope.  After cleaning it up in Photoshop, it looked good but nothing too interesting.  So I ran it through a Lucis Art Filter to bring out all of the detail under the car, the brick wall, the attendant’s uniform and the equipment along the back wall.  I think that it gives images like this a different look and feel and makes the image more interesting to look at.   As usual, I have no clue who the man is.  I have several more images that I have put this effect on that I am going to post in the near future, so please check back.  Thanks for looking … Frank

Paper Machine Abstract …

with 4 comments

This is one of that paper machine that I posted earlier.  I had worked it up several months ago and someone had made a comment about the machine recently and I just thought it was an interesting photograph.  It is not really an abstract, but for lack of a better headline, I just titled it one … Paper Machine just does not get it.  I hope everyone looks at this as a work in progress and I hope to improve my writing skills the more I write.  I had one sentence in the last post that was a terrible run-on sentence, but I tend to write like I talk and my mind works faster than my hands and mouth.  Thanks again for looking … Frank

Paper Machine Close-Up …

with 8 comments

This is a close-up of a paper machine that my father made back in the 1950’s.  I do not know if this was made at the St. Regis Paper Mill or not.  The only two places that used rolls of paper this large was St. Regis, which was a paper mill that manufactured paper or the Pensacola News Journal, which used rolls this large to print their newspapers with.  Anyway, I have always been attracted to large machinery for all the photographic possibilities they present.  They almost appear abstract when you take a small area of this huge machine and concentrate your photograph it.  I found a negative envelope that has 10 or sh 4×5 negatives of the paper machine and this is the most interesting to me.  Maybe at a later date I will work -up a few and post them.  Now, when you see machinery like this, you know that it is operated by computers and high technology.  Back in the 50’s, all you had was a panel with several gauges, a couple of nobs and buttons, a maybe, just maybe, a light or two… one being red that you hoped never came on!

That is about it for now.  Please let us hear from you, all comments are appreciated.  I know people are looking from the stats listing on my WordPress dashboard, so please do not be shy.  Thanks again for looking …

Andyburger …

with 22 comments

This Andyburger shop looks as if it might have been located down Wright Street, next to where the Skipper’s building is / was located.  It would now have been located where the parking lot for Pensacola Photo Supply is located on Wright Street.  This photo is from the 1950’s, but as usual, that is just a guess on my part.   You can read ” Sunbeam Bread ” on the door handle if you look close.  These internet photos never can show all the detail that is in these images, so you can not really appreciate these images unless you look at the negatives / prints.  At some point I would like to have a show somewhere and have 50 or so prints exhibited …stay tuned for that.  Next, is one m0re Andyburger image …

This building, to me, looks like the old Marcello’s Restaurant on Navy Blvd.  I have no idea where it is located and that is just a guess on my part.  If anybody remembers this building or anything on Andyburger, please let us hear from you.  I am interested in learning if this was the old Marcello’s front … it was our all time favorite Pensacola restaurant and we were really sad to see it close.

One more thing, I have been very busy lately and have not been posting very much, but I am not giving up on this blog … I have too much more to put out for everyone to see.  I figure that I have enough photos that I can go for at least 8 or 9 years before I have to repeat anything.  The only thing that takes me so long is getting them worked-up in Photoshop.  So please check back periodically and thanks for all of your comments … Frank

Weaver’s Furniture Store …

with 2 comments

I think that Weaver’s Furniture Store was located over on “T” Street in Brownsville, but as usual, I am not sure about that.  One thing I am sure of … whatever they were selling … people sure wanted.  The customers are lined around the building.  I do not know if it was TV’s or refrigerators ( must have been a Westinghouse product, judging by the sign on the roof ), but whatever it was, they sure wanted to buy them.  Here is one showing the line …

Look at that line … maybe it was their Grand Opening.  Whatever it was, it sure drew a crowd.  One more …

Doesn’t this look like ” T ” Street to you?  I almost would say that this building is still located there off ” T ” Street, somewhere north of the old ” Pleezing Grocery ” building.  If anyone remembers Weaver’s Furniture Store or where this building is, please let us hear from you.  Thanks again for looking …

Mitchell Motors …

with 12 comments

Here are several of the Oldsmobile dealership … Mitchell Motors.  This dealership used to be on the corner of Pace Blvd and Garden / Navy Blvd.  Above is the part’s / service department.  Notice how the service representative is wearing a white lab coat.  Below is a panorama view of the exterior of the dealership.

I cannot remember when Mitchell Motors moved out to City Car, but I know that they were at this location for many years.  I am not sure of the year that these photos were taken … maybe some of you will recognize these car models and help me with a year.  Thanks for looking …

Helen Cooper’s Dress Shop …

with 3 comments

Helen Cooper’s clothing store for women was located in the 200 block of West Garden Street.  The building is no longer there and I think that the 200 block of West Garden Street is where the Sun Bank Building is located today.  The 200 section would most likely be where the Artisana Gift Shop is located and that is just a guess.  I can vaguely remember this little building, but I cannot say for sure.  If anyone has any recollection of Helen Cooper’s, please let us hear from you.  Thanks again for looking …

Veteran’s Gas Company …

This building is located on Pace Blvd, just a couple of blocks north of Cervantes Street.  It is not called Veteran’s Gas anymore and I cannot remember the business’ new name.  I have several interior views that I will post later when I get them worked -up.   Thanks for looking …
