Fun on Pensacola Beach in the 1940’s …
No, this was not staged recently to make it look like it was made back in the forties …it was actually made sometime in the late 1940’s, I am not sure of the year. Maybe some of could tell from the bathing suits that the girls are wearing. The men’s suites look like they could have been bought with in the last few years. I would guess that this shot was taken at Casino Beach looking at the buildings in the background. I have one more beach photo …
The above image was toned and I did not bother trying to make it match the previous group image. As usual, I have no clue who any of the people in the photos are. The only sure thing that I know is that they were made on Pensacola Beach. The thing that really catches my eye is how wide the beach is in these photos … it looks as if it could be several blocks from the water to where the buildings start. Now when you go to Pensacola Beach, in some areas it doesn’t seem to be a hundred feet from the road to the Gulf. I bet there was not any beach re-nourishment program going on back then, in fact, I would wager that if you had told someone back in the 1940’s if you were going to spend millions of dollars to build the beach up … they would have said that it would only wash away in a year or so, if that long. Better not let any of the ” brains ” on the Santa Rosa Island Authority Board hear about that! Next thing you know they will be subsidizing concerts on Pensacola Beach with tax-payers money!!! Beauty Contest at the Casino on Pensacola Beach …
The negative bag read something like ” JC Beauty Contest at the Casino ” and the date was 1950’s. The “JC” was the Junior Chamber, I believe. I do not know who the girls are or the guy giving the trophy, but he sure is interested in this young lady. Here is one more of the two …
I hope that his wife was not in the audience. The band was ” The Clarence Schenk Orchestra “. Here are the runners up …
I do not have any names for the young ladies, but the last one looks vaguely familiar to me. The last photo is of the three winners …
These are three cute girls or should I say ” ladies ” …. I do not want to come across as sexist or anything in this political correct society that we live in today. I wish that I had some photos of the outside of the Casino, but I have yet to run across any. If anyone happened to be at this beauty contest, let’s hear from you. I am curious who these beauty queens are. Thanks for looking and please check back …. Frank
Pensacola Beach House …
This was made back in the early 1960’s. A family named “King” owned this house that was located on the Gulf. I can remember my parent’s renting houses like this when I was growing up and how much fun we had staying at the beach for a week. It was always the highlight of my summer. Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
The Press Corps …
I have ran across this negative for years and for some reason or another, have never bother to scan it until just the other day. This looks like it was taken out at Pensacola Beach in the 1940’s maybe. It could have been at one of the fights that was held out at the Casino or it could have been at one of the beauty contests put on at the Casino. Check out the old Speed-Grafex that guy kneeling is holding … I have parts of one just like it over at my barn. And check out the guy with the Bolex movie camera, my father had one just like it. In fact, I have reels of film that my father made that I would like to have converted to DVD’s, but I know that it would cost a small fortune. The guys hanging around look like they would be in style today … that guy’s bathing suit looks like something surfer’s would wear today. If anyone recognizes any of the people in the photo let us hear from you … thanks for looking …
Beauty Contestants at The Casino on Pensacola Beach …
This photo of a group of beauty contestants was taken inside the ballroom of the old Casino on Pensacola Beach in the 1950’s. I can remember the Casino fairly well, but I have only run across one exterior photo. I do not know who any of these ladies are or what beauty contest it is … could be one sponsored by the Jaycees. I have run across several negative envelopes that have ” Jaycee Beauty Contestants ” written on them, but there are no names of the girls in the negatives. As usual, all comments are appreciated and thanks for looking …
Pensacola Beach in the 1950’s …
I posted this photo on the old blog when the BP disaster happened last year and I was surprised that I did not have any comments on it. First, there are actual sand dunes with sea oats in the photo. Second, look how deserted the beach is ( granted, I do not know the time of year that this photo was taken, but still, you do not see any people, trash, etc ) and how clean / white the sand is this photo. I sure have fond memories of the beach during the 50’s and I am pretty sure this was when this photo was taken. Thanks for looking …
Beach Beauty …
I am not sure of this lady’s name, so I am not going to mention it. My dad used to do a lot of these type photos for the beauty contests that they used to stage at the Casino on Pensacola Beach. I have some photos that I posted on the old site that I will find and post so you can see what I am talking about. Thanks for looking …
