Nuns Out Front …
This is my all time favorite photo ( or at least in a group of 10 or so ) only because I was born here in this hospital back in 1953. I had posted this image up on the old site and I do not think I had that many comments on this image. Now, granted, I do not get too many visitors to this site since I have never advertised it anywhere, however, I thought with how many people were born here over 50 years or so I would have had a few reminisce their memories. And also with all of the nurses that had gone through nursing school at the hospital, I would have had a few mention their story, but no such luck. Maybe this time I will get a few stories … Thanks
Old Sacred Heart Hospital in the Early 1940’s …
I am not sure of the exact yeay this was made … I want to say 1941 or 42, but I have no idea. Maybe if someone could identify the cars in the photo, we could pin it down. I posted an aerial photo earlier that my dad had made back in the 1930’s and you did not see a parking lot across from the hospital. Also, note all of the trees out front of the hospital. I posted an exterior view several posts back and it did not have all of this foliage. As usual, all comments are welcomed …
Pensacola Home and Savings Association …
This photo was made back in 1960 sometime. I found a passbook savings account that my parents had started for me back when I was at Episcopal Day School when I was cleaning out my mother’s cedar chest. It is funny how she saved everything … report cards, receipts, etc. That is about it for now … thanks for looking!
San Carlos Hotel …
Another one of the San Carlos Hotel from around 1955 or so. This is probably the best photo of the exterior of the hotel that I have. This is cropped tighter than what is in the original negative and I will post it later when I run across it. Pensacola was sure a active and vibrant city during this time after World War II. Soldiers were coming back and getting out of the service and staying. The housing industry was growing, looks like people were buying cars and spending money … times were good! This is also one of my favorite images from this era that I have run across and cleaned-up. I will do some research on the San Carlos Hotel down at the Pensacola Historical Society and share it with you in the future. Thanks for looking …
Aragon Court in the 1950’s …
I thought that I would follow up the ” Grounds Keeper ” up with this photo of Aragon Court taken back in the 1950’s, because if you look closely, in the back left of this image is the Admiral Mason Ball Park where the Pensacola Dons played. It shows what Ninth Avenue looked like south of Gregory Street in the mid-1950’s . And you know that the Aragon Courts were torn down back in the 1970’s and Aragon was built in it’s place back in the 1990’s. This is the only exterior view that I have found of the Admiral Mason Ball Park … I wish I had a close-up view of the entrance, but I do not. Thanks for looking …
