Unknown Football Team …
I have the negative for this image filed as ” Football Team – Unknown “. I feel that it is probably from Pensacola High School, but I cannot be positive. But what interests me is the team’s equipment … the helmets look to be made of leather and there is no protective bar on the front of the helmet. I do not know what you call this protective piece that is worn on all of the helmets now days. Look at player number “36” seated on the front row. He looks like he is sporting some type of bandage over his left eye … must have taken a really bad hit, but it did not stop him. On the back row there are several players ( #56 for one ) that look like they are wearing a helmet from back in the 1930’s or 40’s for sure. The stadium suggests that this could have been PHS, but like I mentioned I am not sure. I know that there a few views out there that could tell me if this is PHS or not and maybe they will speak out and tell us. I just found this negative recently and it was loose in a box with a lot of other negatives that had no information either. However, like I have mentioned earlier, my main purpose is to share images that my father made and to show a much simpler time / era. If someone has any information, well that is great … icing on the cake so to speak. If not, you have an idea what your parent’s and grandparent’s lived through and endured. So maybe we don’t have it so bad after all, eh? Thanks for looking and as always all comments are welcomed and appreciated … Please check back … Frank
Ebay Items …
I have started posting a large selection of items on Ebay …a lot of camera equipment, some old Annona yearbooks that were my father’s and other miscellaneous items that you cannot live without ( just kidding there ). I never realized that there was such a market for these old products until I was approached from several movie producers about using some old photos that I have posted in movies that they are making as background on walls, tables, etc. No, it was not Oprah or Spielberg or even a tv realty show on cable, and no, a deal was not made, but at least it opened my eyes to some possibilities that I never thought of before. Here is a link for the Annona yearbook that I have listed and I plan to put several other yearbooks on Ebay in the near future. This is something that I just started working on this week and I know that with just the photography equipment alone, it is going to take me a while to get rid of. And I plan to put a Vegamatic in it’s original package up this week .. a perfect gift for your special lady on Valentine’s Day. I have a cow’s skull that I advertised as a perfect gift for your mother-in-law … yeah, an excellent gift for her on Valentine’s Day. You will be her favorite son-in-law with a gift like that!! Thanks for looking … Frank
PHS Basketball Team …
This is the Pensacola High School Basketball Team from 1956, I believe. I thought that since I had posted some Tate High School images from the 1950’s, it was time to post another from PHS in that era. I left the crop at 10×8 when I posted the image, however I do not know if the photo will show up on the blog as 10×8. If you click on the image, it will pop up in another window by itself ( or rather it should ) and that image should be 10×8. It is funny to me that there can be several negatives in an envelope and one can be all scratched up and filthy, then the other can be clean and look like it was just processed last week. The negative above did not take much Photoshop to get ready to post … the other negative in the same envelope looked like it was driven over by a truck and left out side for more than fifty years. I am not positive that this image was taken in 1956, so if anyone knows the correct year, please let us know. Thanks again for looking and please check back … I still have a lot of high school photos to post from the fifties. I am not sure of what exactly, I know some more basketball photos and some other miscellaneous sports images … You are just going to see what I dig up. As always your comments are welcomed and appreciated … Frank
Pensacola High School Annona Ads …
These photos were shot to be used in ads for the Pensacola High School yearbook Annona. As usual, I have no clue who any of these young ladies are in any of these photos or do I know exactly which business they advertised. But I am confident that some of you out there will let us know. I am going to say that they are from the 1950’s, but they could be from the 1960’s. The one above is from some dress store in Pensacola and it most likely was downtown somewhere, since the malls did not come about until later ( I am guessing about that ) in the late 1960’s I would guess. Here are several more photos …
The last photo of the girls looking at the silver settings was made in side Elebash Jewelery store in downtown Pensacola I believe, bit I could be wrong. The girls in the cosmetic store is not familiar to me at all, so if anyone recognizes the store let us know. Thanks again and I hope looking at these photos puts you in the shopping mood for Christmas …. Check back and be safe … Frank
Pensacola High School Football Team in the 1950’s …
I found three negatives of this team in different variations years ago and finally sat down and worked one up. The other two are in very bad shape and has sections missing and are in terrible shape. This was the easiest to clean-up and make presentable. I would have to guess that this team was in the 1950’s sometime. Notice how each manager is wearing a white jump-suit with a number on one side and the abbreviation for “Manager” on the other side. No clue what the numbering means or meant. Maybe someone will know and be able to tell us. I know that the author, Rick Fountain, who wrote an excellent book recently on the history of the Pensacola High School Football team reads this blog occasionally and he might be able to shed a little light on this group photo of the team. Thanks for looking and if you know any information on this group, please share it with us. Thanks again for looking … Frank
PHS Twirlers …
This photo was taken in front of the old Pensacola High School that was located at the top of the hill on Palafox Street across from the Confederate Memorial. This must have been made in the early 1950’s. I have a nice post card of the old PHS somewhere here on this blog. My father did not take the photo, but I thought that it is a nice image showing the old school. If anyone recognizes any of these twirlers, let us hear from you. Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
Pensacola High School Basketball Team …
I do not know what year, maybe late 1950’s or early 1960 or 61, and I do not know if this is the varsity or the junior varsity, but someone will know. One more group …
This group does look a little younger, so this must be the junior varsity. Now, a couple in the PHS gym. You know that it was not air conditioned and how these kids practiced in the summer without passing out was a miracle.
And here is another in the gym …
I can remember going with my father to the gym during the summer and he would be photographing the seniors for the coming year in the gym. It was hot, but I do not remember anyone passing out because of the heat or complaining too much. But times where different and nobody had air conditioning in their cars or homes in the early 1960’s or late 1950’s. I cannot even remember when air conditioning became come place, but I know that the high school I went to in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s did not have central air conditioning. Maybe a room or two had a window unit, but that was it. I did not mean to ramble on about the air conditioning … Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
Finian’s Rainbow …
This is the cast from the play ” Finian’s Rainbow ” put on by the chorus of Pensacola High School. I am not sure of the year, but it is either 1969 or 1970. I have a 1970 Pensacola Annona yearbook and I will go back to see if that was the year. I do not have any close-ups of the actors, only group views. I have several other negatives and I will see what other groups are there. I recognize on of the girls in the group and I think that she was a year or two older than me. If anyone remembers this play from PHS, please let us hear from you. Thanks for looking … Frank
Pensacola High School Chorus …
Here are some photos of the Pensacola High School Chorus. I scanned these several years ago and did not bother to put a year to these photos, but I am sure that someone out there will recognize someone in these photos and help us out with the year.
I did not bother cropping out the people in the back and framing them better. I thought that showing all of the frame is interesting and you get to see more of what is going on …
Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
PHS Cheerleaders 1956 …
I found this recently and thought I would post it. I have several others of this group that I will clean-up and post later. I see one girl that looks familiar, but I cannot recall her name. Maybe some of you out there will recognize some of these cheerleaders and can identify them. Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
