Unknown Football Team …

Football Team_No Info _ RTP _ 11 Mar 15 _ SFW I have the negative for this image filed as ” Football Team – Unknown “.  I feel that it is probably from Pensacola High School, but I cannot be positive.  But what interests me is the team’s equipment … the helmets look to be made of leather and there is no protective bar on the front of the helmet.  I do not know what you call this protective piece that is worn on all of the helmets now days.  Look at player number “36” seated on the front row.  He looks like he is sporting some type of bandage over his left eye … must have taken a really bad hit, but it did not stop him.  On the back row there are several players ( #56 for one ) that look like they are wearing a helmet from back in the 1930’s or 40’s for sure.  The stadium suggests that this could have been PHS, but like  I mentioned I am not sure.  I know that there a few views out there that could tell me if this is PHS or not and maybe they will speak out and tell us.  I just found this negative recently and it was loose in a box with a lot of other negatives that had no information either.  However, like I have mentioned earlier, my main purpose is to share images that my father made and to show a much simpler time / era.  If someone has any information, well that is great … icing on the cake so to speak.  If not, you have an idea what your parent’s and grandparent’s lived through and endured.  So maybe we don’t have it so bad after all, eh?  Thanks for looking and as always all comments are welcomed and appreciated … Please check back … Frank

Ebay Items …

IMG_1591 1959 PHS Annona Cover

I have started posting a large selection of items on Ebay …a lot of camera equipment, some old Annona yearbooks that were my father’s and other miscellaneous items that you cannot live without ( just kidding there ).  I never realized that there was such a market for these old products until I was approached from several movie producers about using some old photos that I have posted in movies that they are making as background on walls, tables, etc.  No, it was not Oprah or Spielberg or even a tv realty show on cable, and no, a deal was not made, but at least it opened my eyes to some possibilities that I never thought of before.  Here is a link for the Annona yearbook that I have listed and I plan to put several other yearbooks on Ebay in the near future.  This is something that I just started working on this week and I know that with just the photography equipment alone, it is going to take me a while to get rid of.  And I plan to put a Vegamatic in it’s original package up this week .. a perfect gift for your special lady on Valentine’s Day.  I have a cow’s skull that I advertised as a perfect gift for your mother-in-law … yeah, an excellent gift for her on Valentine’s Day.  You will be her favorite son-in-law with a gift like that!!  Thanks for looking … Frank

PHS Twirler 2_SFW_2 _!_8_14

I have several more of the these twirlers from the Pensacola High School Band of the 1950’s that I put up in the next month or so.  I am not sure if she is a band majorette or a baton twirler, but I am sure someone out there will correct me and let me know who this is and the year.  Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

Pensacola High School Football Team in the 1950’s …

PHS Football Team 5 _ 10x8_RTP SFW

I found three negatives of this team in different variations years ago and finally sat down and worked one up.  The other two are in very bad shape and has sections missing and are in terrible shape.  This was the easiest to clean-up and make presentable.  I would have to guess that this team was in the 1950’s sometime.  Notice how each manager is wearing a white jump-suit with a number on one side and the abbreviation for “Manager” on the other side.  No clue what the numbering means or meant.  Maybe someone will know and be able to tell us.  I know that the author, Rick Fountain, who wrote an excellent book recently on the history of the Pensacola High School Football team reads this blog occasionally and he might be able to shed a little light on this group photo of the team.  Thanks for looking and if you know any information on this group, please share it with us.  Thanks again for looking … Frank

Pensacola High School Basketball Team …

PHS Basketball 4 _ RTP_SFW_ 15 June 13

I do not know what year,  maybe late 1950’s or early 1960 or 61, and I do not know if this is the varsity or the junior varsity, but someone will know.  One more group …

PHS Basketball 3_RTP_SFW 15 June 13

This group does look a little younger, so this must be the junior varsity.  Now, a couple in the PHS gym.  You know that it was not air conditioned and how these kids practiced  in the summer without passing out was a miracle.

And here is another in the gym …

PHS Basketball 1 _ RTP _ SFW _ 15 June 13

I can remember going with my father to the gym during the summer and he would be photographing the seniors for the coming year in the gym.  It was hot, but I do not remember anyone passing out because of the heat or complaining too much.  But times where different and nobody had air conditioning in their cars or homes in the early 1960’s or late 1950’s.  I cannot even remember when air conditioning became come place, but I know that the high school I went to in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s did not have central air conditioning.  Maybe a room or two had a window unit, but that was it.  I did not mean to ramble on about the air conditioning … Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

PHS Glee Club 5_RTP_1_13_13_SFW

Here are some photos of the Pensacola High School Chorus.  I scanned these several years ago and did not bother to put a year to these photos, but I am sure that someone out there will recognize someone in these photos and help us out with the year.

I did not bother cropping out the people in the back and framing them better. I thought that showing all of the frame is interesting and you get to see more of what is going on …

PHS Graduating Class of 1934 …

PHS Graduates 1933_RTP_4x5_15 Jan 13 _ SFW

This is a photo of the old Pensacola High School that was located at the top of Palafox Street, one block up from where the First Baptist Church is located.  In fact, part of First Baptist’s parking lot is this location.  My father had made  a 16×20 photograph of the school and got everyone to  sign it at one of their reunions.  When my father graduated in 1934, PHS did not have a yearbook that year … all that they had was a sheet of paper with all of the graduate’s names and their activities they were involved in.  I do not know if this was because of the Depression or what the reason was.  The photo is fairly sharp and if you click on the photo, it will open up in another window larger and you can see the name a little clearer.  Thanks for looking … FRank

Pensacola High School “Annona” Yearbook Ad …

with 18 comments

This is another one that I ran across years ago and set aside.  As usual, I am not sure these lovely young ladies are or for what yearbook ad this was photographed for … maybe a bakery,  since it looks as if they are eating cake.  I thought that it would bring back memories for eating in the old Pensacola High School Cafeteria.  I never went to school here, but I can remember going to this cafeteria many of times when I would go over to the school with my father.  If anyone recognizes who these girls are, please let us know … Thanks for looking … Frank
