Nurse with Newborn …

leave a comment »

This nurse and newborn were in the old Sacred Heart Hospital sometime back in the 1950’s.  I do not have any information about who the nurse or the baby were … the baby looks small, but clean and healthy.  If anyone recognizes the nurse, please let me hear from you.  Thanks for looking …

Christmas Time …

with 2 comments

This is an example of what my dad used to make for Christmas cards back in the 1950’s and 60’s.  I can also remember him spending several hours on Christmas mornings going around to a handful of homes and taking photos of kids around the Christmas tree with their presents.  I have several of these cards laying around that I will scan and post later.  Thanks for looking …

Sanger Theater in the ’50’s …

with 4 comments

This was taken sometime in the mid 1950’s … the movie playing at the time was called ” The Racers “.  Cesar Romero starred in the movie.  I can not recall ever seeing it play on late night television, so that must tell you something about the movie.  The Sanger management must have had some type of tie-in with a car club and had a contest.  I guess my father must have gone down and photographed the winning car and it’s owner, which is pictured below.

The winner was a LT  Peter Lind and he was the owner of this Jaguar that won.  The man on the left was a Rainwater, not sure which one.  Anyone seeing this that has any remembrances of this event or movie, please share it with us.  Thanks for looking …

East Hill in Snow …

with one comment

This was taken somewhere in East Hill, but I have no idea where it might have been made.  If anyone out there has a clue, please let me know because I cannot figure it out.  I am sure that they were the homes of some of my father’s friends … he would not have just gone out and made a photo of someone’s house that he did not know just because there was snow on the lawn.  I would not doubt that these houses are still there, unless they had burnt down.  That is about the only way any of the homes have been destroyed in East Hill. Thanks for looking …

N.B. Cook School in Snow …

with one comment

This is a panorama that my father made of NB Cook school in February 1955 when it snowed so hard.  I have posted quite a few images from this ” snow storm ” and I still have a lot more to post and I have a few that I have not posted on either the old blog or on this one.  Thanks for looking and if you have memories to share about this snow from this time, please let us hear from you.  I was only two when this happened and I am in some of the photos, but at that age, I obviously do not remember a thing.

Sheriff Bill Davis in Fiesta Parade …

with 2 comments

This is a photo of Escambia County Sheriff Bill Davis in a Fiesta Parade from the 1950’s.  Back in the 50’s and 60’s, my favorite part of the parade was usually near the end when the sheriff’s mounted posse would ride.  There always seemed to be at least 30 or 40 horses and riders.  Then they would have inmates from the jail that would be dressed-up in black and stripes cleaning the horse manure droppings from the street.  I always thought that they were clowns until I got older and found out differently.  Thanks for looking …

Frye’s Drive-In …

with 3 comments

This is one from the old blog that I posted several years ago.  I had never heard of the place before … this must have been made in the early 1950’s.  Someone had emailed me and said that they believed that this place was located out on Navy Blvd, just before you go over the bridge that takes you onto the Navy Base.  If anyone has any more information on Frye’s Drive-In, please share it with us.  Thanks for looking …

Fiesta Parade …

with 6 comments

This photo of the Fiesta Parade interests me because it is a good view of Palafox Street looking south.  You see Muldon Motor Company and next to it was Son Motors and you have the San Carlos off in the distance.  I am not sure of the year, but I would imagine it to be in the 50’s sometime.  The float pictured must have been sponsored by ” Coca-Cola ” since you it on the back of the plane on the after-burner.  One thing you can say about Pensacola is that everyone always turned out for the parades … then and now!  Thanks for looking …

Florida First Bank and Trust …

with 2 comments

This is the Florida First Bank and Trust that was located on Palafox and Garden Streets, directly across from the San Carlos Hotel.  Normally, I would remove the telephone wires from the top of the photograph, but I did not feel like taking the time to Photoshop them out.  You can see the covered bus stop on the right side of the photo that appeared in the bottom right corner of the photo showing the San Carlos Hotel that was in my ” Before and After ” post several back.  As usual, all comments are welcomed … thanks for looking.

Pensacola Beach in the 1950’s …

with 2 comments

I posted this photo on the old blog when the BP disaster happened last year and I was surprised that I did not have any comments on it.  First, there are actual sand dunes with sea oats in the photo.  Second, look how deserted the beach is ( granted, I do not know the time of year that this photo was taken, but still, you do not see any people, trash, etc ) and how clean / white the sand is this photo.  I sure have fond memories of the beach during the 50’s and I am pretty sure this was when this photo was taken.  Thanks for looking …
