Bill Jones Used Car Lot 1 _ RTP _ SFW

The only thing that I am fairly sure of is that this car lot was on the corner of Garden and Pace Blvd ( and I am not even 100% sure of this being Pace and Garden ).  At one time this corner was the location for Astro Lincoln-Mercury before they moved out to Car City on Highway 29 North.  Here are several more views …

The old cars are interesting to see and also look at all of the oil stains in the road…one thing that I have noticed from all of these road photos that I have worked on over the last few years is how much oil you find on the streets.  These cars back in the 1940’s and 50’s must have leaked oil like a sieve … I have often wondered if it could have been inferior gaskets made out of cork back in those days.  Whatever the problem, it was something that needed to be fixed.  Any comment about any of this is appreciated.  I have several more posts ready to go and I will put them up next week.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Concrete Supply 3 _ RTP _ SFW

I do not know anything about Concrete Supply Company, I ran across these the other day and thought that they looked interesting.  It must have been a huge operation with all of the trucks that they operated.  These photos were made on August 24, 1956, or that was the date on the negative envelope.  The construction business in Pensacola must have been booming during this time for this company to maintain and operate so many trucks.  Here are a few more photos …

I have no idea where this business was located, but it sure took up a lot of property somewhere in Pensacola.  If you have any information regarding this business or the concrete business in general, please feel free to share it with us.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Falstaff 4 _ RTP _ 20 Mar 13 copy _ SFW

Falstaff Beer, who can remember it?  I can remember that Falstaff used to sponsor professional baseball games back in the 1960’s and I believe that Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese were the announcers back in those days.  Now I was young back then, but that sounds vaguely familiar to me.  I do not know who these men are. Here is one of the delivery men …

I wonder what ever happened to Falstaff beer?  Let me know if you know what ever happened to Falstaff beer, or PeeWee or Dizzy … Thanks for looking … Frank

Fences Building _RTP_4 June 13 SFW

I have been busy with other things last month and have not had anything ready to post, so I thought I better get something up before anyone thinks that I run off.  This image is one that I found years ago in an envelope with some other random buildings and businesses.  They were made for the either the insurer or owner of the buildings, since the name on the envelope did not mean anything to me.  The name of the business does not sound familiar to me, but I did not post it for the business … the negative that this scan is from was what impressed me.  Mainly how clean and sharp it is.  Also, it produced a full ranged tonal print so easily when I printed the negative.  I have no idea where this building was located in Pensacola.  Any comments are appreciated and thanks for looking … Frank

I do not remember this business, so I do not know where it was located or anything.  It looks vaguely familiar, but that is all.  Below is another view of the trailers …

Brownsville Cycle 1_RTP_20 Mar 13 _SFW

Here is one view of the business … I have another that I will post later.  I do not remember the business, but I believe that the building is still at this corner of “P” and Cervantes Street.  The one thing that grab’s my attention is the phone booth on the right hand side of the image.  Most kids now days cannot even remember payphones, so a phone booth is out of the question!  Clark Kent jumping into a phone booth to change into Superman always come to my mind when I see a photo of one … I almost said when I see one, but other than in a photo, I cannot remember the last time I ran across one.  I know, the Navel Museum has one in one of the displays.   Thanks for looking and I will post that other photo in the next few days … Frank

Son Motors Employees …

This is one of several Son Motors employees that I worked up recently.  I ran across this filter … Lucis Art Filter … that I purchased years ago and just put it in my photoshop filters.  I have always liked the look that you can achieve with it, it really brings out the detail in b&w images and does some strange things to color images.  I did several other workers that I am still working on and I will post them when I finish them up.  This is also the filter that I used in the above post of the inside of the chapel.  Let me know what you think … thanks for looking … Frank

Irene’s Beauty Shop …

with 5 comments

Here are several panorama photographs that my father made with the Wide-Lux camera that he had.  I know nothing about this business, Irene’s Beauty Shop, so anything that anyone can share with us is appreciated.  These were made back in the 1950’s sometime.  Here is another view …

This obviously is the front of the store and the other photo showed the back where all of the “stylists” worked.  Back in the 1950’s I believed that they were called ” beauticians” then and you very rarely hear that word mentioned today … at least I have not heard anyone say it in the last 20 years or so, maybe more.   If anyone remembers ” Irene’s Beauty Shop – Store “, please share it with us.  Thanks for looking …

Frye’s Drive-In …

with 3 comments

This is one from the old blog that I posted several years ago.  I had never heard of the place before … this must have been made in the early 1950’s.  Someone had emailed me and said that they believed that this place was located out on Navy Blvd, just before you go over the bridge that takes you onto the Navy Base.  If anyone has any more information on Frye’s Drive-In, please share it with us.  Thanks for looking …
