First Baptist _SFW

This was the church building for the First Baptist Church in Pensacola Florida back in the 1950’s before the new sanctuary was constructed in the mid-to-later 1950’s.  I have an interior view somewhere that I will post later.  Here are several of the new sanctuary below …

First Baptist Letting Out_SFW

This last photo is church letting out from the first service held in the new sanctuary.  I have several interior views that I will post later and also several events like the ground-breaking for this church and several from the Easter Sunrise Service that First Baptist used to hold over at Bayview Park on Bayou Texar.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Alcaniz and Wright Streets …

Alcanez and Wright Streets _ RTP_ 14 July 13 _ SFW

This is looking south on Alcaniz Street.  The street light straight ahead is at the intersection of  Alcaniz and Wright Streets.  This was most likely around 1956 or 1957.  The liquor store on the right side is long gone and it is a vacant lot used mostly for parking when the Civic Center has events.  The building on the left used to be a restaurant up until the 1970’s until it closed.  It know houses several businesses … Gent’s Formal Wear, Bosa Alterations, The Emerald City ( don’t ask ) and the world famous Pensacola Photo Supply.  All of these businesses have been opened for many years and if you are looking for tuxes, alterations or anything photographic, please  stop by and see what they have to offer.  Thanks for looking … Frank

Group in Front of Christ Church …

Christ Church Group _RTP_SFW_11 July 13

Now I know for a fact that this was made in front of Christ Church on Wright Street, HOWEVER, as usual, I do not have a clue who the group is.  I would venture a guess and say that it is some type of youth group and I would also imagine that it was made sometime  during the summer.  My father used to make photos at several churches when the church would sponsor these retreats during the summer.  These ” kids ” would come from areas in the southeast and would want a group photo to take home.  I can remember photographing several groups during the summer on one day and then making 100 or so 8×10’s over-night to deliver the next day back during the ’70’s.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Christ Church Dance 3 _ RTP _ SFW 11 July 13

Here are a few photos that were taken at Christ Church on Wright Street in downtown Pensacola.  I am not sure of the date, but I know that it was sometime back in the 1950’s.  No clue who anyone is in any of the photos, but it looks as if everyone was having a good time.  Here are several more …

Christ Church Dance 1 _ RTP _SFW 11 July 13

My guess is that these might have been teenagers that were members of the church, since this was taken ( I believe ) in the old fellowship hall.  The only information written on the negative envelop was ” Christ Church “.  If anyone recognizes anyone in these  photos, please let us know.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Southern Bell 6_Girls_SFW_FHP_15 Aug 11

This was made when Southern Bell had a grand opening for their building on Belmont Street in downtown Pensacola back in the 1950’s.  I have several other photos from this event that I will post later.  They really let you know how far we have advanced in the  fifty-five years or so.  If anyone was there that night and to share it with us, please feel free.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Fiesta of Five Flags 1954 …

Fiesta 195_ 1_RTP_15 June 13 _ SFW

Here are some images from 4×5 color transparencies that I ran across and forgot that I had found.  I actually had found them 10 years or so ago, but they were so discolored that I did not want to bother to post them.  I figured out how to color correct images in Photoshop several years ago, but never ran across the transparencies until just recently.   I am not sure who any of the people on the float are, but I know that the float is some where on Palafox Street.  If you look real close on the right hand side of the image, you can see the front of the Municipal Auditorium way in the background.  I am not sure what the building is directly in back of the float, but I am sure that someone out there can tell us …   Here is another float that was in line before this float …

And then here is one of the King and Queen of the Fiesta …

Fiesta King and Queen_1954 _ RTP _ SFW

These scans could have used some more work because if you look close, you can see some very small dust marks in the sky and on the costumes.  But for this blog they are not that noticeable.   I am going to post below an original scan of one of these transparencies, so you can see how much they had discolored through the years ( almost 60 to be exact ).  However, with the creation of Photoshop you can almost bring back any image to it’s original color and brilliance.  Here is the original scan …

Some difference …  If anyone knows who any of the people are, please let us hear from you.  Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

Rex Theater Concession Stand …

Ritz Theater_SFW_8 May 13

Here is a photo taken at the old Rex Theater in downtown Pensacola of the Concession Stand.  Look at those prices … hot dog for 15 cents and 5 cents for a snow cone.  Now, I do not think that they even sell hot dogs and I know that you could not get a snow cone.  In fact, I cannot even remember the last time I saw hot dogs advertised at  a theater’s concession stand.  Ten dollars gets a tub of pop corn and a watered down cola … times have sure changed!!  I am hoping to do a few changes to this blog and my personal photography blog  site, http://frankhardyphotoblog.com/

They are not going to be any major changes, but I hope they are  a slight improvement in the way that the blog will be presented to you to view.  I am always trying to improve the way these blogs will come across to you.  This is only me doing this and I am learning as I  fumble along, so I want to give it a more polished look.  Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

Elebash Jewelers …

Elebashs Exterior_RTP_3 Apr 13_ SFW

Here is a panorama photo made of Elebash’s Jewelery Store in downtown Pensacola.  This obviously is the old location that was across the street from where they are located now.  I have commented on this Wide-Lux camera in posts before that my father would use to make these panorama images.  It was destroyed in the fire and my father never bothered to replace it.  I have seen several on Ebay, but they are very expensive and I could never justify buying one … with all of the panorama / stitching software available now, you can make an excellent pano with your iPhone.  In fact, I have post a few over on my blog, Frank Hardy Photo Blog,  taken at the new Blue Wahoo park and 30A at Seaside ( just go to the search and type in panorama and that should bring up the posts  –  I can not figure out how to get the link to take you to the exact post, but I will work on it ).  Thanks for looking … Frank

Palafox Street …

Feb 58 Snow 5 _ RTP _ 3 Apr 13 _ SFW

This is at the top of Palafox Street where The Confederate Memorial stands and the road has to go around the memorial to continue on north.  The house that you see on the right side of the image is where The First Baptist Church is located today.  This photo was taken when it snowed in Pensacola back in 1957 ( could be 1958 ), but I believe it is 1957.  I have it somewhere around here and I will go check later to make sure of the date.  I will post some more this coming week, I have a few already to go.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Pensacola Dons Player ” Youngdahl ” …

with 8 comments

Youngdahl 1_RTP_1_15_13

This Dons player’s name was ” Youngdahl “.  I do not know anything about what what position he played or any of his stats.  The thing that is funny to me is the guy way in the back behind the fence … I do not know what he is doing or if he even knew that he was in the photograph, but I guess people have always been people in the background trying to make fools of themselves.  Here is the same photo below that was worked on with the Lucis Art Filter …

Youngdahl 1_RTP_Lucis_1_15_13

The filter really accentuates the details in a b&w photo … the guy in the background and the ads on the back wall, along with the dirt in the outfield, all have a distinct and different look from just a straight b&w scan / print.  Thanks for looking and commenting … I have been busy with other things and have not spent much time on this blog lately.  I have found a stack of negatives that I found years ago, but put somewhere so that I would not lose them and ended up miss-placing  them until a week ago.  I have not scanned any of the negative s and I plan to do so in the next few weeks, please check back.  Thanks again for looking … Frank
