This is at the top of Palafox Street where The Confederate Memorial stands and the road has to go around the memorial to continue on north.  The house that you see on the right side of the image is where The First Baptist Church is located today.  This photo was taken when it snowed in Pensacola back in 1957 ( could be 1958 ), but I believe it is 1957.  I have it somewhere around here and I will go check later to make sure of the date.  I will post some more this coming week, I have a few already to go.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

  1. Frank, Reference the photo of Palafox looking north at the Confederate Memorial. I believe the photo is earlier than 1957. I was a teenager at First Baptist in the early fifties. The new sanctuary was built in 1955. That old house on the right was next door to the old sanctuary. We bought the house and used it for Sunday School meeting rooms before removing it for the new sanctuary. As kids at the church, we explored that house thoroughly. A story I have not confirmed is that one of my friends found an old cannon in that house. The cannon ended up at the Wentworth Museum. I would love to know if that is true. Bill Kreitlein
