Modesto City Limits …
Here is another photo that my father made in Modesto California, this time at the city limits sign. The road intersecting this is named ” Griswold “. I am sure that this intersection now has a couple of convenience stores and maybe even a couple of fast-food restaurants, but back in the 1950’s it was out in the country. If anyone knows what is here now, let us know … I am sure that I can go to Google Earth and find out if I do not here from anyone. Thanks for looking …
Clubbs House in East Hill in Snow …
This is the old Clubbs House on the corner of Blount and 12th Avenue. My father made this when Pensacola had that severe snow-storm in February of 1957 … not exactly positive that was the year, but it was somewhere around 1956, 57 or 58. I have posted several already from that snow, so I need to go back and check out the date. This house is still there, but has received extensive remodeling. Thanks for looking …
WBSR Valentine’s Promotion … UPDATE – 21 July 12
I ran across these negatives years ago and posted one of them up on the old blog site. WBSR must have had some type of promotion asking the listening audience how much they love WBSR and to mail in Valentine’s cards to let them know. I am not sure exactly who the disc jockey is, but I think that this might be the late Don Priest … he was at WCOA for many years. The next photo is just another variation of the above photo and the only one that I posted on the opd site.
This last photo was a “start” photo or maybe a “before” photo.
If anyone remembers this promotion that WBSR ran back in the 1950’s for Valentin’s Day, please share your memories of this with us. One more thing, WBSR used to print up a top playlist from back in the 60’s and I must have collected them. I ran across a stack of them when I was cleaning out a closet at my parent’s house and I was thinking of scanning a few and posting them for the sake of nostalgia … Stay tuned and thanks for looking.
UPDATE: 21 JULY 12
I am been recently informed that this is not, I REPEAT – IS NOT, Don Priest, but the famous Gordon Towne. My sincere apologies to Mr. Towne or Mr. Priest … I guess it depends on how you look at it! The negative envelope only said ” Valentine Promotion – Radio Station “, and I just guessed the rest. I stand corrected …
Aerial of Downtown Pensacola in the 1950’s …
I am not sure when this aerial was made, but it was most likely in the past 10 or 11 years or so since it has the Pitt Slip Marina. You do have a good view of where the new Maritime Ballpark / Park is being built. Also, the Municipal Auditorium has not been torn down and the DeLuna Park at the end of Palafox Street been built. I would venture to say that I made this sometime around 2001. Thanks for looking ….
Aerial of Baylen and Garden Streets …
This is an aerial of Baylen and Garden Streets that I made back in 1981. Nothing really great, but if you look closely you see how the area has changed in the past 31 years. I have a lot of these types of aerials and have come across a lot of them recently. Most are in fairly good shape and they do not require as much Photoshop work as many of the ones from back in the 1940’s and 1950’s, so you will see a few pop-up here in the future. Thanks for looking …
Pure Oil Gas Station …
Not sure where this station was located or who the people are in the photo … I would imagine that the man on the far left is the owner of the business / station and his employees are to the right. I have several like this that I have worked up and will post later. I f anyone knows anything about this photo, please let us hear from you … Thanks for looking
More Modesto …
Here is another photograph in downtown Modesto California … this one is looking from the opposite direction as the photo in the previous post. I cannot get over all of the hits that I have had to this site from the previous photo that I posted of downtown Modesto in the 1950’s. I even had a nice comment from a girl explaining what was in the previous photograph. I have run across several images from this trip that my dad made in California from this trip that I will work up and post later. As usual, thanks for looking and all comments are welcome …
Cochise at the Geronimo Sign in Pensacola …
Here is Michael Ansara as ” Cochise ” standing in front of a Geronimo sign the State of Florida dedicated back in the 1950’s when he came to Pensacola back in the 1950’s. I am sure that the “political correctness” crowd would hysterical now if this was to happen. Mr Ansara must have been a good sport about all of this … the photos I have posted of him in the past has him signing autographs and he is smiling in all the photos. If anyone was around at the time he visited and remembers seeing ” Cochise ” around town and spoke with him. we would love to hear from you … Thanks again for looking
Another from Yosemite Park …
I posted a 4×5 color transparency of one of these images last year. I do not believe that I posted this exact image on the old site, but here is one from another view that is not in too bad of shape. I have left the film edge in on purpose. I know that I have an image of this same scene somewhere that I have cleaned-up and when I find it I will post-it. I have run across several scenes of this same view, but none of them show much of the water in the foreground. I have personally never been here and I am sure the place has changed quite a bit since these images were taken back in the 1950’s. Thanks for looking and all comments are welcomed …
