Frank Hardy Made My Photographs Two

New Orleans Market …

with one comment

This photo was made in the market down in New Orleans, most likely around 1950.  The lady in the photo is my mother.  If you go today, the place looks exactly the same sixty years later.  I am sure the place is a lot dirtier now … it looks fairly clean in this photo.  Also, back then this was primarily a food / grocery market.  Sort of a ” farm to market ” type set-up.  Now, very little of it is food, the majority of the vendors sell t-shirts, crafts, knock-offs, seconds, etc, etc … but still an interesting place to go and walk around and you can find some nice handcrafted pieces fairly reasonable.  Thanks for looking …

  1. Actually they keep it really clean. Bathrooms and all. The shops aren’t flea market type stuff though, except 1 or 2, the rest is wallets, T shirts, and New Orleans art junk. There are several good places to eat in there though. and They have a Tomato Festival in June, with music and cooking shows etc.
