Bayview Park …
This photo above of Bayview Park must have been made in the early 1900’s, maybe around 1910 or so. My father obviously did not make this photo, but he had a negative of the image. Someone must have brought the photo into the studio and had a copy print made. I have not seen very photos of the old Bayview Park and I thought that it looked interesting. Notice the old Model A’s in the parking lot on the left hand side. I can remember my father talking about going swimming there at Bayview Park when they moved here in 1925 from Muscogee Florida. All comments are appreciated … Thanks for looking …
Easter Sunrise Service …
This Easter Sunrise Service was held over at Bayview Park in East Hill. First Baptist Church was the sponsor this year and I would guess the year to be 1956-57 or 58. I have several other photos of the speakers and choir on the stage that these people are looking towards. I will post them when I run across them. Thanks for looking …
Playing Ball …
Here are some kids playing ball in the park that is diagonal from the hospital. The park is named ” Cordova Square ” and I posted a image of it covered in snow several posts back. This photo was made in the mid-1930’s and I have several different versions worked up of this same print. I will post some of them in the near future. The baseball diamond was taken down in the 1940’s sometime and I have a story to share about that and I’ll do that when I post the photo. Notice how the dog is right there in the game! Thanks for looking …
Clubbs House in East Hill in Snow …
This is the old Clubbs House on the corner of Blount and 12th Avenue. My father made this when Pensacola had that severe snow-storm in February of 1957 … not exactly positive that was the year, but it was somewhere around 1956, 57 or 58. I have posted several already from that snow, so I need to go back and check out the date. This house is still there, but has received extensive remodeling. Thanks for looking …
Brooks Thornton Florist …
This florist was on the corner of 12th Avenue and Cervantes Street. Another florist is now in it’s place and I believe the green house is still in use. The tree is long gone, but I can remember it being decorated for Christmas as a kid. We lived in a garage apartment about two blocks away on Cervantes. We lived there for 5 or 6 years until we moved to Cordova Park. In fact, the garage apartment is still there on Cervantes between 13th and 14th Avenue. One day I might have to drop by and knock on the door. Thanks for looking …
Old Sacred Heart Hospital Aerial …
This aerial shows the old Sacred Heart Hospital and the Sacred Heart Nurse’s Home on 12th Avenue. To the north of the hospital is the building that once housed Friendly Service Grocery, Moulton’s Drug Store and a series of offices. One of these offices on Gonzalez Street was my father’s first photography studio. Also, notice that there is no office building across from the hospital. My father must have made this photo sometime in the late 1940’s.
