Governor Dan McCarty of Florida …
This is Governor Dan McCarty of Florida photographed at Penton’s Feed Store in Milton. I am not sure of the exact date, but it had to have been taken sometime in 1953 because he was only governor for nine months. He passed away in September of 1953. Here is a link to a Wikipedia site on Gov. McCarty. I have posted some other photos of him in downtown Milton, but I had not posted this one yet. I believe that Penton’s is still open in Milton on Alabama Street. If anyone remembers him coming to Pensacola, please let us hear from you. Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

I will be happy to share whatever I have on Gov McCarty. I have an envelope with maybe ten or twelve negative that my father made when he came to Milton. I have scanned most of them I believe, but I cannot put my hands on the envelope right now. I know that I set them aside somewhere in a place that I could easily find, but I can not find them now. I will keep on looking and when I get around to it I will email you what I have. I will send them to your gmail address, but you keep in touch with me also. I am just a one man business and I always stay busy. Anything that I can do to help you with your project I am happy to, so feel free to ask. If I can I will, if I cannot I will let you know or can send you somewhere that could help you. We have a local historical society in Pensacola that is now tied into UWF called the Historic Trust and they might have something that you could use. Stay in touch and thanks for commenting … Frank

Frank, the Penton’s building is still there on Alabama St, but it’s named “Mannings Feed and Seed” now. Thanks for posting all of these photos – really enjoying them. cw

Thanks for the comment, Chris. I thought that the name had changed, but I just could not remember Manning. Even though my address says Milton and I live out on Garcon Point off of I-10, I do not go into Milton all that often. And very seldom go I ever get on Alabama Street. Thanks for commenting and I hope all is well … Frank
