Nuns Out Front …
This is my all time favorite photo ( or at least in a group of 10 or so ) only because I was born here in this hospital back in 1953. I had posted this image up on the old site and I do not think I had that many comments on this image. Now, granted, I do not get too many visitors to this site since I have never advertised it anywhere, however, I thought with how many people were born here over 50 years or so I would have had a few reminisce their memories. And also with all of the nurses that had gone through nursing school at the hospital, I would have had a few mention their story, but no such luck. Maybe this time I will get a few stories … Thanks

Born here at the “OLD” Sacred Heart hospital in Nov 1944 along with my brother Bobby in 1951.My grandparents lived on the corner of Gonzalez and 11th Ave.Steve sdlugos@gmail.com

I was born here in this hospital in 1946 and in the hospital as a patient in 1959. The Nuns were just beautiful and so graceful. The rooms so big (to a little kid) and hospital food was good. At that time, there was no fast food so to be served in bed was worth being sick. I remember walking the halls and visiting the other patients who could not get out of bed. The hospital was magical. For me it was a life experience. I like finding old post cards with the hospitals picture on it. Some are dated with messages (always interesting notes). I love the small town I live in.

Diana – Thanks for the comment … I too was born in the old Sacred Heart Hospital in 1953. I also had my tonsils removed there in 1953 and I can remember it like yesterday. Back in those days they dropped ether and the smell was terrible. Just when you thought you were about to throw up you passed out / went under ( not sure of the correct term ). I remember that I was put in a men’s ward with 11 other men patients. There was not a children’s ward, so at 6 I was considered a man at that time in the eye’s of the hospital … maybe they had a children’s ward and it was full, I do not know, but I could write a book on all the things I remember from that hospital visit. Jeffrey – The Rintz Family owns the building now … Stephen ( a son in the office ) knows a lot about the history and I am sure he would be interested in sharing what he knows with you. Their business name is ” Gulf Coast Building Design ” , Google it and there should be a link. If not, get back with me and I will find out for you. hi frank….i was born in 1953 at the pensacola maternity home….do you know of any orphan home that was associated with that hospital?

Jeffrey … I personally do not, but you could go down to the Pensacola Historical Society downtown in back of the T.T. Wentworth Museum and I am sure that someone will be able to help you.
