More Skiing on Bayou Texar …
I do not know these skiers, but it is more interesting to look at how Bayou Texar has changed. Just looking at all of the trees on either side gives you a feel that their are not that many homes on the Bayou. When in fact the Bayou had homes on almost all of the lots going from the Cervantes Street bridge all of the way to the 12TH Avenue Street bridge.
One thing that you do notice is the lack of boat houses on the Bayou. Most homes had a small dock, but there did not seem to be a lot of boat houses … now some of the boat houses are large enough for you to live in.
Thanks for looking and please let us hear from you … Frank
The Bill & Peggy Northup family lived on Paradise Point, regularly skied on Bayou Texar, and expect they’d know who this woman was–if not a family member of theirs? Steve Northup held the barefoot record for skiing on the Bayou over an hour. I’m not certain if this was a world record but imagine it was a state record at least. The Northups were as famous on Bayou Texar as the Bonifay family and the Watson family too for that matter. –Dunc

Thanks Dunc … Her brother, Tom, lives a couple of miles from me over here on Garcon Point and I see him every so often. But I have not seen him in a year or so and I do not have his phone number or his email. I keep saying that I am going to go by his house, but never do. Thanks for the help … Frank

This skier could be anyone that lived on the Bayou Frank, I skied with the Bonifay’s in 1977 thru 79. We put on charity shows over at the park. We made our own costumes and put on the shows. This skier could very well be some of the Bonifay’s Mother. All of them had generations of skiers raised right there on Bayou Texar. Some of them relocated to Winter Haven and was putting on shows down there. I know Pete Bonifay moved his family there and they were performers for the shows. One of our skiers mom worked for your Dad for years. Mrs. Smith. (sorry can’t remember her first name). Her son was John. As all of us got older we each went in other directions. I figured you would know them and maybe you can trace down who the skier is.

Thanks for the comment Glenda … Mrs. Smith worked up at Stone’s Studio, she and Ruth Stone were sisters. I knew her son Jeff slightly, but I can not put a face to John, he must have been older than me. I remember the ski shows that you are talking about and I some negatives around somewhere that my father of the skiers. I know of one group that had Ginger and maybe 6 or 7 other girls. I will have to go back and find them and throw them up, you are probably in the group. Thanks for looking and commenting … Frank

Wow that would be great Frank; I am sorry about the misinformation about Mrs. Smith. Yes I remember Ginger well, she headed up all of us skiers. She planned the shows. We also did one over on the sound north of the picnic tables towards the bridge. I have an photo album of our different acts but I don’t remember the photographer but I know at this particular show it wasn’t your dad. The photos are beautiful the photographer was riding in the boat for each act and did a wonderful job. They are all in color. They were made on Sept.1st 1979. That was the year that Tim Bonifay had that terrible accident, on June 6, 1979. That really had everyone upset. We dedicated this show to him. He was a big help for Ginger. Up until then the Bonifays were bad not to wear the life jackets or belts but after that no one got in the boat w/o one. I was in “Welcome” flag girls at the beginning of the show. I was the “e”. lol We really had a good time, I would work during the day and head out for practice every evening. We practiced every week-end. Wished I was in the shape I was in then lol !
