57 World Series Ticket 1_SFW_11 Dec 12

Here are two tickets from the 1957 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Braves.  The Braves defeated the Yankees 4 games to 3.  This was first time that a team had moved to a new town and won the series.  The Braves had moved from Boston in 1953 and it was the first pennant ( National ) for them in Milwaukee  and the first World Series for a team that had relocated to a new city.  Notice the price … $7.35!!  I bet you could get a hot dog for a quarter and a beer for a dime back in 1957.

Even though these are not my father’s and do not really have anything to do with his photography, I still thought that they were interesting.  If anybody out there attended either of these two games in New York or any of the others in Milwaukee, we would be interested in hearing from you.  I would even like to hear from you if you watched it on tv …NBC had the broadcast rights for the World Series this year.  Who knows, they might have even paid some huge amount like $50,000 for the rights to broadcast the entire series!  I would even venture a guess that Mickey Mantle did not make more than thirty or forty thousand dollars in 1957.  Let us hear from you baseball historians out there and thanks for looking … Frank

    • Ray … Thanks for mentioning that. I just finished reading a biography on Mickey Mantle and he was really an incredible athlete. They said that he could run from home plate to first base in 2.3 seconds. It was also mentioned that he started out with the Yankees on third base, but he threw the ball so hard the first baseman could never catch the ball. So they moved him out to right field … Joe Dimaggio was in his last year at center field. Mickey said that Joe never said a word to him for his first six months playing next him in the outfield. Dimaggio must have really been a moody guy. Thanks again for commenting … it is nice to know that people enjoy looking and talking about these things that I find interesting and I really enjoy hearing the stories that these photographs bring up when people see them. Thanks and again and keep in touch … Frank
