Twelfth Avenue Oak Trees …
My father made a series of photographs of these trees for one of the Baars family members back in the 1980’s. These trees were planted back in the early 1900’s because they were the entrance way to the Baars Estate that was somewhere at the end of 12th Avenue on the Bayou. Not sure exactly where on Bayou Texar the home was located, maybe someone can enlighten us with the info. If I do not hear from anyone, I will go down to the Pensacola Historical Society and so some research. My father had sold any number of these prints through the years and I am surprised that I have not sold that many of them. As usual, all of these images are for sale … contact me with any questions you might have about purchasing any of these images. Thanks for looking …
Allied Builders …
I do not know anything about this photograph. I had posted it on the other site and I do not believe anyone made a comment on the photo or the business. It looks as if it could have been in East Hill or it might have been in Brownsville or it could have been in Scenic Heights. This is definitely going to take an ” old timer ” to help me out on this photo. So anyone familiar with ” Allied Builders Inc of Pensacola “, please let me hear from you. Thanks for looking …
Aerial over Twelfth Avenue Bridge …
The plane is over Carpenter’s Creek in this image. The road going into Pine Glade’s is a dirt road and no homes have been built yet. You see Cordova Park on the other side of the Twelfth Avenue Street Bridge and it looks as if Dunwoody coming off of 12th is a dirt road. Also, there are no houses on Bayou Texar in this view. I am not sure of the year that this photo was made … if I had to guess it would be the early 1950’s, maybe 1951 or 52. I have 10 or so aerials of Cordova Park my father made around this time to around 1961 that I plan to post in the future.
Twelfth Avenue Panorama …
This view of 12th Avenue was made back in 1956 with a panorama camera called a WideLux that made four exposures on a 120 roll of film. You can see my father’s old studio in the middle of the block. The block was not curved … this effect was caused by the camera’s lens movement. Notice that 12th Avenue at this time was still made of brick. I have run across a few of these panoramas that my father made around Pensacola that I will post. This image was posted on the old site, but I have done some additional work on the image to clean up several areas. To the left of the studio was the “Little Duchess Beauty Salon” and to the right ( where the curve in the photo is ) was Ginn’s Restaurant. All comments are welcomed and encouraged. Thanks for looking …
Baseball Park …
I am not sure where this fence line was constructed, but I think that this might have been the back fence wall down at Admiral Mason Ball Park. You see the Frank Hardy Photographer panel, the third one from the left. If anyone knows where this might have been made, please let me know. You can tell that the construction of the park is still in progress, since there is no grass in the outfield. Any comments on any of the other businesses are welcomed. Thanks for looking … Frank
Forest Lawn Cemetary in Los Angeles …
This is a new post. I ran across this when the site was shut down and worked it up. I have several other views from here that I will post later when I get them worked up. Not sure what the buildings in the background are … I do have Rudolph Valentino’s site in a mausoleum that is an interesting photograph. Be back later!
Dons …
These players were part of the 1958 Pensacola Dons. The first player is Neb or Ned ( not sure which ) Wilson.
The player above named ” Deer ” . And below is another photo of the same player.
I wish that I had more info on these two players, but this is a new post … I had not posted these players ( or that many individuals ) on the previous blog. I had just run across a bag that contained maybe 50 or so 4×5 negatives of the 1958 team in the past month of so. They are not in very good shape and will require a lot of work to get them up to this level. As I find out information on these players and the Dons in general, I plan on updating these posts. So bear with me on the info … anyone that has anything is welcome to share. Thanks again for looking.
Yosemite Falls …
This is a 4×5 transparency my father made back in the 1950’s from one of his trips out west to visit his sister in Los Angeles. I have 20 or more images from these various National Parks that I will post again. I left the color from the transparency and did not bother to correct it for the old Kodachrome look. Bet you did not know that Kodachrome was made in sheet film back in the 50’s … I do not know for how long, but it was made in other sizes beside 35mm for a time. Stay tuned for more …
