Aerial over Twelfth Avenue Bridge …
The plane is over Carpenter’s Creek in this image. The road going into Pine Glade’s is a dirt road and no homes have been built yet. You see Cordova Park on the other side of the Twelfth Avenue Street Bridge and it looks as if Dunwoody coming off of 12th is a dirt road. Also, there are no houses on Bayou Texar in this view. I am not sure of the year that this photo was made … if I had to guess it would be the early 1950’s, maybe 1951 or 52. I have 10 or so aerials of Cordova Park my father made around this time to around 1961 that I plan to post in the future.
Twelfth Avenue Panorama …
This view of 12th Avenue was made back in 1956 with a panorama camera called a WideLux that made four exposures on a 120 roll of film. You can see my father’s old studio in the middle of the block. The block was not curved … this effect was caused by the camera’s lens movement. Notice that 12th Avenue at this time was still made of brick. I have run across a few of these panoramas that my father made around Pensacola that I will post. This image was posted on the old site, but I have done some additional work on the image to clean up several areas. To the left of the studio was the “Little Duchess Beauty Salon” and to the right ( where the curve in the photo is ) was Ginn’s Restaurant. All comments are welcomed and encouraged. Thanks for looking …
Baseball Park …
I am not sure where this fence line was constructed, but I think that this might have been the back fence wall down at Admiral Mason Ball Park. You see the Frank Hardy Photographer panel, the third one from the left. If anyone knows where this might have been made, please let me know. You can tell that the construction of the park is still in progress, since there is no grass in the outfield. Any comments on any of the other businesses are welcomed. Thanks for looking … Frank
Forest Lawn Cemetary in Los Angeles …
This is a new post. I ran across this when the site was shut down and worked it up. I have several other views from here that I will post later when I get them worked up. Not sure what the buildings in the background are … I do have Rudolph Valentino’s site in a mausoleum that is an interesting photograph. Be back later!
Dons …
These players were part of the 1958 Pensacola Dons. The first player is Neb or Ned ( not sure which ) Wilson.
The player above named ” Deer ” . And below is another photo of the same player.
I wish that I had more info on these two players, but this is a new post … I had not posted these players ( or that many individuals ) on the previous blog. I had just run across a bag that contained maybe 50 or so 4×5 negatives of the 1958 team in the past month of so. They are not in very good shape and will require a lot of work to get them up to this level. As I find out information on these players and the Dons in general, I plan on updating these posts. So bear with me on the info … anyone that has anything is welcome to share. Thanks again for looking.
Yosemite Falls …
This is a 4×5 transparency my father made back in the 1950’s from one of his trips out west to visit his sister in Los Angeles. I have 20 or more images from these various National Parks that I will post again. I left the color from the transparency and did not bother to correct it for the old Kodachrome look. Bet you did not know that Kodachrome was made in sheet film back in the 50’s … I do not know for how long, but it was made in other sizes beside 35mm for a time. Stay tuned for more …
Front Porch Snow Scene …
This scene is from a previous post on the old blog. Do not remember what I wrote about the scene, but it could not have been much … the snow was from that February 1955 and had to be some house in East Hill. It did not do much for me when I first saw it, but after seeing a scene like this from somewhere else, it started looking more interesting every time I came across the negative. One thing I came going to start doing with this site that I did not do with the other one is to tag my photographs with type of logo for those who make a copy of the images. The resolution is such that they will not print up any larger than a 5×7 without becoming pixalated. I am not interested in small images … all I am interested in doing is selling large wall sized images to individuals and corporations for decor. Anyone with any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to ask and thanks again for looking … Frank
What happened to the last site?
For the people out there who have been following “Frank Hardy Made My Photographs” for the past two years, I want to personally thank you for all of your comments and checking back to see what I have been putting up in the past. As for what the reason is for stopping the other blog, it was not me, but Blogger. Since I did not renew my domain name in a timely enough fashion, the domain was placed in “domain purgatory” ( my phrase ). To get my domain name back, I would have had to pay an exorbitant ( to me ) fee and the emails it was going to take was going to be a real headache. So after a great deal of thought, I just decided to start a new blog on WordPress. I started my photography blog Frank Hardy Photo Blog a year ago on WordPress and I like the results, mainly because the photo is so much larger than the one’s I was able to put up on Blogger. And the photographs are what all of this is about, right? I am not foolish enough to believe that people tune in to read my ramblings.
As far as the photo above is concerned, this is a photo made back in 1951 in a parade in downtown Pensacola on Palafox Street. How many of you out there can remember these buildings having this black granite facade? The lady was Miss USA 1951. I will post a link to her in another post, because she has a rather interesting history. Below is the photo as a straight black and white with only minimal Photoshop to clean up the scratches and boost up the contrast. The image above is run through a filter called Topaz to achieve this effect … I also use a filter called Lucis to achieve a similar effect.
The internet does not show the details that the Topaz filter brings out as well as a print does. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send them to me … I have gotten everything corrected, so if you do write me, your email will not get bounced back to you. Thanks again for all your patience and I do plan on re-posting everything that I had put up on the other site in the future … that is going to take me a while because I had over 230 posts in the two years that I had that site up.
