Ski Club 1_10x8_RTP _ SFW

Not Snow Skiing,  WATER SKIING !  I found some negatives a while back from the 1970’s that my father had taken of the Pensacola Ski Team / Club.  I do not know any of the girls, but a few look vaguely familiar.  I am sure that this was taken at the Bonifay’s ” Ski Beach ” on Bayou Texar.   For some unknown reason, this was the only negative I scanned … I will have to go back and find the negative envelope and scan some more.  Thanks for looking and if anyone can identify any of these girls, please do.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

  1. Frank! This is so exciting to see! I’m the E on the far right! Cindi Varner Crane. My Mom made the costumes! These were very happy times and appreciate all the Bonifays taught me! I still ski today at 57! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hello Frank’
The woman on the far left is actually June Strouse, she is Yvonne Strouse’s daughter and the granddaughter of E.F Bonifay. She was Wonder Women in many of the shows. We are trying to locate more photos of June. If you have any we would like to discuss getting copies. June is my wife, we live in Gulf Breeze. Thank you! I can be reached at Islandtommy1@gmail.com

    • Thanks for the comment … I am not sure. I wish that I could tell you more. None of the negatives are identified, either by event or individuals. The negative envelope only reads ” Ski Show “. I am sure that when he made these he just took a roll or two of b&w film, processed, printed and then gave Earl Bonifay some prints for publicity. This was nothing that he did to sell to the skiers. Call me at 449-1279 and we can talk. I am happy to sell you anything I have, but have no clue where to start. Thanks again … Frank

  4. Frank I was soooo excited to see this Bonifay Ski Team photo!  This is the WELCOME Flag Skiers and I am next to the end, “M” in WELCOME, Glenda Marble.  This was our 1979 charity show we did. We made our own costumes and we did charity shows.  We had to practice every day and week ends. I would get off from my secretary job and head for Bayou Texar and practiced until Dark.   I learned so much from the Bonifays. I also have photos that were made by another photographer.  But; I didn’t have this one. Thank you so much.  I can give you names of each one of the girls.  I have my ski program. I also have photos of when we were in the fiesta parade riding in Ginger Bonifay Harris’s, boat (Master Craft) that pulled us.  I have two photos of that.

OK here are the names of the girls in the above photo in order:  “W”  – Lisa Holms, “E” Dee Bonifay, “L” Linda Bonifay, “C” Tally Beard, “O” Julie Bonifay, “M” Glenda Marble, “E” Cindy Varner.

Frank if you happen to find more negatives of this ski show I will be glad to tell you who they are. Our program list each act we performed that day and each performer. We had a lot of skers in that show, biggest part of them were Bonifays.  Our Grand Masters were: Joe Parker, Ray Parker, Ruby Parker, Roland Parker, Joe Marchetti, Tutti Lockhart, Fred Davidson, Al Davidson, Charlotte Burda, Harry Bonifay, E.F. Bonifay,  and Earl Bonifay.

    • Thanks for taking the time to write all of that … I have sent you an email. I will find the rest of negatives and see about scanning and posting some of them. I did not know that this was for the Jerry Lewis Telethon. I would be interested in seeing a copy of your ski program sometimes. Thanks … Frank
