PHS Graduates 1933_RTP_4x5_15 Jan 13 _ SFW

This is a photo of the old Pensacola High School that was located at the top of Palafox Street, one block up from where the First Baptist Church is located.  In fact, part of First Baptist’s parking lot is this location.  My father had made  a 16×20 photograph of the school and got everyone to  sign it at one of their reunions.  When my father graduated in 1934, PHS did not have a yearbook that year … all that they had was a sheet of paper with all of the graduate’s names and their activities they were involved in.  I do not know if this was because of the Depression or what the reason was.  The photo is fairly sharp and if you click on the photo, it will open up in another window larger and you can see the name a little clearer.  Thanks for looking … FRank

    • Ray … I had forgotten that the building had burned down, I just thought that they demolished it and I cannot remember the year. I can remember seeing it at the top of the hill, though. Thanks for commenting and looking … Frank

  2. Frank, my sister, Katherine Anne Kreitlein, graduated from this building with the Class of ’53. I think that was the last class in this building. The junior high schools played basketball games in the small gym in this building in the mid fifties. I played for Clubbs and then went on and played for Shorty Sneed at the new building on Maxwell Street. I finished in ’59. Bill Kreitlein

  3. Frank I seen your dad’s name on there! Great! Do you mind if I post it on the Pensacola Website where all the natives of Pensacola go on Facebook to reminisce! I doubt if any of the students are on that site but their children or grandchildren might really enjoy seeing their relatives autographs on the photo.

    • No, I do not mind and thanks for asking. Anything that drives readers to this blog is fine with me. I am not much of a social media wizard…I go to photography blogs and web sites, but I am not much of a user of Facebook. If anybody needs to reach me, they need to do it through this site or my own photography blog: FrankHardyPhotoBlog. com Thanks for looking and commenting…I know that I am getting traffic to my blog- I just do not know who and I always wonder who is looking. Keep in touch- Frank

      • Thanks for your comments, Glenda. I have had people email me some post cards that have been fairly interesting and have enjoyed looking at them. I cannot remember if I have posted any of them though. I have tried to only post photos that I know that my father made or a few that I have made, if they compliment something of his. The only other photos that I have posted are ones that people brought me through the years to copy and reproduce … most of those have been generic scenes of places and a few people ( like the guy dressed in the leopard skin suit holding a pistol at a shooting range ) that I thought were either funny or interesting. But that is just my opinion and falls into the “whatever it’s worth” catagory. Thanks again for writing and anything that helps send readers my way is always appreciated … Frank

  4. Frank thanks so much for posting this pic of the old PHS. You know I had forgotten about that being PHS at one time. It had been so many things. Love all the autographs they put on the photo!

  5. Dear Frank:
What an incredible treat for me. My daughter, who subscribes to your blog, called me this morning, forwarded your email and told me Daddy’s signature was clearly visible, right under the window on the right hand side. I certainly remember him pointing out the building as the place he went to high school and also remember how very sad so many, many Pensacolians were when it burned. I even remember going to the fire and seeing many older people crying at the site of it hopelessly burning to the ground. Bless you for posting these pics. I did not even know about your blog until today and I will certainly add my name so that I too can see these priceless photos.
    Many, many thanks,

    • Thanks Mrs. Tringas / Donovan …. I have many more images to go go, so I plan on keeping this site going for some time in the future. Besides, it has been nice hearing from many people that I have not seen in a long time, from people that I sort of knew and just a great number from outside of Pensacola that have past through, were stationed here at one time, etc, etc. Thanks again for the nice comment and I am glad that you are getting some enjoyment from looking at all of these images. Please pass on my web address to all of your friends and tell them to stop by. Thanks again for looking and commenting … Frank
