Frank Hardy Made My Photographs Two

Pensacola High School Baseball Team …

I have not posted any photos from Pensacola High School in a while and I came across these two negatives several years ago.  I set them aside meaning to do something with them, but never did.  They did not require much work, so I got them ready to post the other day.  As usual, I do not recognize any of the players … they were before my time.  I am not real sure of the years, but I would say early 1960’s, but they might have been 1950’s.  If anyone sees anyone that looks familiar, please let us know.  Below looks like the pitchers,  but I cannot imagine a team this size having this many …

Maybe these guys are the seniors, even though they look as if they are standing on the pitcher’s mound.  Thanks for looking … Frank

    • Thanks for the comment … I wish that I had more negatives of PHS from the 1950’s and 1960’s, but I am sure that they burned up in the fire back in 1975. Thanks for commenting and please check back … Frank

  2. Frank, that top photo I believe is the 1960 team. I see my brother Grover Robinson on second row third from right and that looks like pitcher Danny Eggart to his right. Bob Oliver is first row third from right. Thanks for posting. Your dad was as good a person as he was photographer. TomRobinson

  3. In the photo of the nine players standing on the mound, the 4th from left is Bob Oliver, 6th is Tucker Cotton, 7th is Bill Collins, 9th is Gordon Cassells. These guys graduated in 1960.

  4. The top picture of the boys in baseball uniforms are from the 1960 yearbook (I am looking at the picture now in my yearbook). It lists their last names. If anyone wants to know who they are, let me know. I recognize Artie McGraw and Bobby Yonker.

    • Thanks Bonnie … I emailed Artie and told him to go look at my post and see the photo. I thought that was him on the front row, but I was not sure. Most all of my father’s negatives from PHS were burnt-up in the fire back in 1975. I have run across several envelopes of negatives and I have been working to clean them up. Most are in bad shape and it is taking a lot more work in Photoshop than I had expected. I found some from the musical ” Annie Get Your Gun ” and some group photos of the PHS Glee Club that I will post later. I also found some action photos of a PHS – Escambia basketball game that I am working on. Thanks again for commenting and please check back later … Frank

  5. Frank the photos I have in my 59′ year book of the baseball players all have their hats on, so it is really hard to tell if any of these guys are the ones you have. Tom Markham may be one of them. The tall one on the left next to the one on the end. I have all their names under my photo but this is not the same photos you have. Sorry! I will try finding Tom Markham on facebook, maybe he can tell you.

  6. I graduated in the class of ’53. I may be wrong but two of the boys look like Ronald Fillingim (my neighbor) and Kenneth Beal. By the way, I remember your dad well when he and his mother lived next door to the Godwins who my relatives on Gadsden Street. I thoroughly enjoy your pictures and comments about Pensacola, my dear hometown! Thank you.

    • P.S. I meant to also mention that your dad took a lot of pictures of myself and then my sons. He was a really good photographer and a very nice man.

    • Thanks for the comment Mildred … On a side note, when my grandmother died, I saw several “Mashburn” names in the guest book from her funeral and wondered who they were. I have never known anyone named “Mashburn” and were curious about them. I appreciate your comments and your help in identifying who these players might be. I live over in Milton and there is a guy on radio station WEBY in the morning whose last name is “Mashburn” and that is the only one that I have ever heard of. Thanks again for commenting and the nice words … Frank
