Mitchell Motors …
Here are several of the Oldsmobile dealership … Mitchell Motors. This dealership used to be on the corner of Pace Blvd and Garden / Navy Blvd. Above is the part’s / service department. Notice how the service representative is wearing a white lab coat. Below is a panorama view of the exterior of the dealership.
I cannot remember when Mitchell Motors moved out to City Car, but I know that they were at this location for many years. I am not sure of the year that these photos were taken … maybe some of you will recognize these car models and help me with a year. Thanks for looking …
My father worked for Mitchell Motors in Atlanta Ga for 33 years. He was a mechanic in the tune up department, his name was William Hubbard Smith they called him Hub. my name is Randy Smith and as a young boy I spent a lot of summers there helping my father in any way I could and learning how to work on cars so after high school I also went to work at Mitchell Motors, off and on I worked there for about 5 or 6 years. A lot of great people worked there and I remained friends with most for many years. thanks for posting.

Having grown up in Pensacola (1945 – 1973) I had driven past Mitchell Motors many times. However, that photo looking North up Pace (O) brought back memories. During the Summer of 1963, between high school and Pensacola Junior College, I worked for Soule Construction Company which was further up Pace, a bit north of Cervantes. Often, when I got off at the Company yard, I had no ride home and had to walk down Pace, across the old Bayou Chico bridge, and on to my house down near Bayshore Drive. After a hard day’s work on the construction crew, coming down the sidewalk and getting to that corner post in the picture meant in my mind that I was almost home.

I can remember when Mitchell Motors was at the Pace (O St.) and Garden location. The cars sitting outside are 1956 Oldsmobiles.

WE MOVED TO PENSACOLA IN THE 1950’S. I DO REMEMBER SOME OF THE PLACES.
MY UNCLE AL HERRICK WORKED FOR MITCHELL MOTORS IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA UNTIL
HIS DEATH IN 1968. HE AND MY AUNT WERE ALSO FRIENDS WITH THE MITCHELLS IN
ATLANTA. MY AUNT WOULD TAKE ME OUT TO THEIR FARM CLOSE TO ATLANTA TO PICK
VEGTABLES FROM THE GARDEN. IN THE 50’S AND 60’S IT WAS A MAJOR EVENT FOR
THE NEW CARS TO COME OUT IN THE FALL. I REMEMBER GOING TO THE AIRPORT IN
ATLANTA MANY TIMES TO SEE THE NEW MODELS ON DISPLAY. I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT
WAS DONE IN PENSACOLA ALSO. I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW WHY THE CELEBERTIES FROM
THE 50’S WERE IN PENSACOLA.? I, ALSO, REMEMBER GOING TO THE AIRPORT JUST
TO WATCH THE JETS TAKE OFF….AS MOST SHOULD REMEMBER AND SEE FROM PHOTO
IT WAS A VERY SMALL WALK FROM GATE TO PLANE. THANK YOU FOR SHARING SOME OF
THE MEMORIES. I WAS SURPRISED BY THE NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WERE FIMILIAR.

Michelle … Thanks for the comments. The celebrities came to Pensacola for several reasons – 1) They were brought in to be in the Fiesta Parades during the 50’s, 2) Cerebal Palsey brought them in for fund raisers and I know that several other groups did also, and 3) John Wayne was here making a movie. Thanks for commenting and some of the comments on the bottom of the posts are pretty good at helping to explain the situation, so please read them … Frank
