Frank Hardy Made My Photographs Two

Suter School Play …

with 11 comments

Back in 1950’s,  A.K. Suter School over in East Pensacola Heights used to put on these plays … for that matter, several other schools did also because I have run across several other negative envelopes from Clubbs Junior High School.  I know nothing at all about any of this, but I cleaned up several negatives and thought that I would throw them up on here.  Here is one more photograph that I worked up …

I do not know who any of these kids are and the only reason I chose them was because these negatives required the least amount of Photoshop to get them ready to post.  I have run across 4 or 5 negative envelopes from Suter School Plays and each bag contains 20 or 30 negatives each.  Sometime in the future I will get around to working them up and posting some more of the photographs.  I do not know when, but in the not too distant future.  Also, someone sent me the back of a play program that had an ad for my father’s studio …

How many of you out there can remember Carl’s Bakery?  It’s address is listed on Garden Street, but I remember it being over on Davis.  There used to be another bakery over on Gadsden Street, but I cannot remember it’s name … anybody know?  Thanks for looking and all comments are appreciated …

P S – I did not scan the above program page … it was emailed to me, so it is low resolution and the small print is hard to read.  If anyone comes across anything like this page, I am interested in it.  But I need to scan whatever in high resolution and the knock it down to low resolution to post  on the web.  Thanks for the comments about that …

  1. THE best bakery EVER!! Do you remember the fish market in the same building, just a door or two down from Carl’s?

    • Andrea …Thanks for asking. I do not have a clue what I have. All I have are negative envelopes with a name, such as ” Suter School Carnival ” and then maybe a year. My father rarely ever included any other information on the negative envelope, unless it was a contact name. I will go back and find the other negative envelopes and see what the years are on them and then post what I have later. In fact, I am not sure of the name of this play, other than it being something about the world and maybe music, since the boy in one photo is standing there holding a ukelele. Thanks again for looking and check back periodically. Frank

  3. Hi, I am the sister of Daniel Everman. He is the chubby guy in the Hawaiian outfit by himself on stage in the A.K. Suter school play. Dan also attended Clubbs and PHS. He was a drummer for many years in town and during school. He also had a degree in Computer Science and a Masters degree from Johns Hopkins in Writing. Dan passed away in June of 2009 at the age of 57.

      • Thanks … I will check them out. Your write-up about your brother was nice. Even though I never knew him, I think it is interesting who these people are and the life they led later on in life. Frank

    • Thanks for the comment … Sorry about your loss, I have no idea who the majority of these people are that I post in this blog. What I have is a negative envelope and my father wrote on it ” Suter Carnival “. There were maybe 30 or 40 negatives in the bag and I scanned 3 or 4 of them, cleaned the scans up in Photoshop and then post them. Most of the negatives are not in very good condition and it takes me so long to work them up, the ones that I post are the ones in the best shape. I have 3 or 4 envelopes from Suter School Carnivals that I have run across from the 1950’s. I am not retired and this is just something I work on when I get bored, but I do have a lot of negatives that I have pulled out for future posting, so please check back. Thanks again for the post and I appreciate all comments from everyone … Frank

  4. I have to comment, Carl’s was on Gadsden, the building is still there. My Maternal Grandparents worked there, I think they met there.
Keep posting school photos, I love them, hope one day you post one of my mom, she went to NB Cook and Clubbs.

    • Bill – You are probably right … every time I pull out of McDonalds on Gadsden Street and take a right to get to Davis, I always mention to my wife about the bakery that used to be there on Gadsden. I think that they had these little lemon and cherry pies that my dad would always get me. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your comments . Frank
