Navy Point Stores …
This building has been torn down now. The lady that used to run the camera store here was named Mrs. Gossage and she also ran the photo exhibit at the Pensacola Interstate Fair for many, many years. She and my dad were very good friends and I know that he bought a lot of his cameras from her back in the 1940’s and 1950’s. I am not sure when the business was closed down and I did not know that the building had been torn down until Pam and I drove by several weeks ago. Anyone wishing to share their memories of the Navy Point Store or of the Navy Point area in general, please be my guest and thanks again for looking … Frank

There was also a barber shop. I lived nearby on Greve road in the 50’s. Fond memories of skateboarding in the parking lot on Sundays, flying kites in the park across the road, and seeing movies in the theater.

Hi I lived a few doors down from the Gossages on Greve Road. They lived on the corner of Baublits. Ms
Gossage would always take pictures of me and I have been wondering if any still exist. I would have been around 6-9years old then.My maiden name is Russo.

Cool Pictures. I now live in Navy Point and enjoy the HIstory. I sold Mr. Gossages estate off in the early 2000’s. Lots of cameras. Thanks for the neat info. Oh by the way we just found a navy point stores lighter and am putting it on ebay today. Thanks for the comment Robert … my father and Mrs. Gossage were very good friends. She used to run the camera department at the old Navy Point Department store for 20 or more years. I am not sure of the exact time frame, but for some reason, I want to say that she ran / operated that camera department for the whole time that the Navy Point Store was open. I did not get to know her until the 1960’s at the Pensacola Fair where she ran the photo exhibit for at least 30 years or so. She and my father were good friends, but she never really had much to do with me. I always thought that she was very pushy and I never had any type of relation with her, other than just to speak and say hello. I will say that she did an excellent job putting on the photo exhibit at the fair and it always had a lot of traffic going through and looking at all of the prints. It has been a pleasure to view these photos of Navy Point. In the 50’s, before she learned to drive, my mother would shop out there, riding the bus which ran out there. I went to grade school in Warriington and many of my classmates lived in the Navy Point neighborhood so I was also over there quite often visiting them. Of course, I have seen many movies at the Navy Point Theater, before it became porn theater. I remember when I was about 8 or 9 (about 1954) my Great Aunt Lula from Atlanta taking me there on the bus to see a movie on one of her visits.

The Navy Point Stores parking lot was the major school bus stop in Navy Point. Everyone from 6th to 12th grade caught the bus there. Back then you had to walk to the bus stop unlike today where the bus stops at every block to accommodate the kids. The only other bus stop was right next to the bridge, then across Navy Blvd to 2nd street then on to school.
We used to get there early to play touch football in the parking lot. It was nice to have an overhang when it rained.
Back towards Gilliland there was a small building that had a bakery and some small little store fronts along with a laundromat that stayed open long after the stores closed.
The tried re-open it in the early 70’s. I remember it had a very wide staircase that went upstairs.

I remember well, shopping at the Navy Point Store and movies at the theater. I believe the Ellinor and Isern families were involved with both. There was also a bakery and Dr. Nunnley’s dentist office was across the street. There was also a point store in Ft. Walton I believe.

There was also a furniture store and a bakery there. I probably went to the Navy Point theatre more than any other when I was a child. They always had a second-run double feature and changed films on Sunday and in the middle of the week. Alas, my fun days ended when the theatre went porno sometime around 1970.
