Frank Hardy Made My Photographs Two

Ted Weems …

with 4 comments

Ted Weems was a big band leader from Dallas Texas back in the 1950’s and 60’s.  This photo was made in the stairwell at the Town House Motor Lodge that I have mentioned in earlier posts.  You can see other photos of John Wayne, “Doc and Kitty” from the tv show Gunsmoke and others on the wall in back of him.  The photo above had been on the old site … the photo below is one that I have just recently come across and worked up.  It was made in the dining room of the Town House.

I do not know any of the details of why he was here at this time.  If anyone remembers anything about his visit to Pensacola or the exact time, please let us know.   Thanks for looking …

  1. I read an article in St. Petersburg Times that said Weems played at the Quadri-Centennial in Pensacola back in September 1959.

    • Gaye … that is interesting. On Mr Weem’s negative envelope was his address out in Dallas, so he must have bought some of these photos. One more interesting thing, this first blog was on “Blogger” and they used to tell you how many hits from different countries I would receive on each specific post I put up and when I put a post up of Ted Weems, I must have gotten 30 or 40 hits from Russia on him. The big band rea must be very popular over in Russia now. With WordPress, it tells you which countries go to your site, but it does not tell you what they are clicking on. One more thing, I have several coins that they passed out at the Quadri-Centennial. Thanks for commenting and please check back… Frank

    • Thanks for the comment … My father often spoke of Edith Head and how she would call him when celebrities would come stay at their motor lodge. I would like to talk to you sometime about them if you ever have the time. My number is 850-449-1279. I knew that the Head’s had several sons, but I never really knew them or if they are still around. Thanks again and let me hear from you … Frank
