Pensacola Regional Airport …
This photo is from the old site … an Eastern Airline Silver Falcon Turbo Prop Jet unloading at the Pensacola Regional Airport sometime in the 1950’s. I can remember flying in this type of plane when I was younger. My father and I used to fly to Chicago to visit his brother back in the 1960’s in this type of aircraft. We also flew several times to the National Convention of the Professional Photographers of America. The one thing that I always remembered was how the cabin would fill with a low level smoke when the air conditioners would cut on … it must have been condensation on the cooling elements being blown out into the cabin. Now, if something like that was to happen, everyone would think that the plane had caught on fire! One more thing, look how the men are dressed coming off the plane, no casual wear among any of these men. Frank Hardy Made My Photographs Two 
My first plane flight was on Eastern flying from (the former) Atlanta Hartsfield to Pensacola. It was a culture shock even back then between airports. I believe one way tickets were $25 back around 1975, ETA 45 minutes later. I lived in GA & flew down every chance I got as I was very young & loved Pensacola, staying for a couple of years. I remember the airport as just one large room with a cafeteria to the right – that always seemed to be closed when I was there. One day while waiting for a Pens to Atl flight, I recall seeing Donald May (The Edge of Night soap opera) reading a paper. I was a huge Edge of Night fan & was too star struck to say hello.

I worked for Eastern Airlines for two summers during college in late fifties, early sixties. The Manager was Frank Gibbs. I would fuel the planes. At night we had a “terminating” flight that I had to clean out for the next morning’s takeoff. Bill Kreitlein

Bill … Frank Gibbs was a good friend of my father’s and I am pretty sure that he was the reason that most of the photos that I have shown are of Eastern airplanes. I got to know him a little later on in the 70’s. I think that he was out there for 30 years or so. Thanks for the memories … that is what I am trying to achieve with this blog … Frank

Wow, what a treasure trove you have been sharing with us internet dweebs. I came to Pensacola in the early ’70’s and remember some of your dad’s subject shots. You are right about the condensation from the airconditioning. Back then, we were ecstatic to get any kind of cool air, even if it was smokey. Just wanted to give a two cents worth on this photo. Not a turbo prop, just a plain ol’ recipricating engine of the day. And I do remember the airport when you picked up your bags by the aircraft as they were unloaded right on the ramp.
