Al’s Bicycle Shop …
This is not a Frank Hardy Photograph, but a copy someone had brought us to photograph. I usually only saved something if it interested me and for some reason, this one did. Do not know where this business was located, but it looks as it was downtown Pensacola. Judging by the looks of the old car in the photo, this might have been in the 1920’s or 30’s. If this jars anyone’s memory, please let us know.

The car is from the era of 1931 to 1934, as that’s when the exposed spare tire was last seen.

Good observation. The bikes appear to be later, though, and so is the guy’s clothing. I’m pretty confident in the post-1952 dating, based on the linked reference to the Colored Citizen. So we have someone driving a 20-year-old car past the building. Doesn’t seem too unlikely. :-)

OK, found this one. It’s 201 S. Baylen, still standing (sans balcony and facade). Though the car in the image is older, this couldn’t have been taken prior to 1952, when the “Colored Citizen” newspaper ceased operation at this location. Chris … Thanks a lot for the link. That is real interesting and I did not know it existed. I have some photos that my father made inside the USO building at some type of function ( a dance maybe ) that shows the interior very well and I would be happy to share them with you for your site. I just have to find them!! My cataloging of negatives and digital files is very lacking, to be honest with you. I put things in boxes and then stumble across the later.
